Finding Leadership in Recovery

Everyone’s got a story. A bit of life tucked away, shared sparingly. Dave Meyer, Schnitzer Steel’s night shift supervisor in Portland, has a story. The difference is, he wants to use his to help others. Dave faced his drug and alcohol addiction and made some sobering changes in his life. But he knows what a difficult journey and continuing struggle it can be. Especially going it alone.

So, Dave helped start a 12-step fellowship meeting to help himself and others who take their recovery one day at a time. With the support of Schnitzer Steel, he has emerged as a strong leader and a valued mentor.

What’s more, Dave represents Schnitzer Steel in meetings with the people of the Linnton neighborhood near the Portland facility. He ensures that the company does all it can to be a good corporate neighbor.
