Key events in the history of the Steel Manufacturing Business:
| 1968 | - Cascade Steel Rolling Mills, Inc. founded in McMinnville, OR (near Portland).

| 1969 | - Cascade Steel ships first finished steel products.
|
| 1984 | - Schnitzer Steel acquires Cascade Steel, which becomes the first member of Schnitzer’s Steel Manufacturing Business (SMB). The new business unit is vertically integrated with Schnitzer’s existing Metals Recycling Business (MRB) as MRB can supply SMB with the ferrous scrap metal its uses as its feedstock.

| 1986 | - Cascade Steel completes rebuild of rolling mill #1.

| 1996 | - Cascade Steel completes construction of rolling mill #2.
|
| 2004 | - Cascade Steel completes construction of a new 108 ton Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) in their melt shop.
